It is a storefront. It functions just like Vimeo On Demand, with a payment portal, timed streaming, a dashboard where you can customize your page with quotes, festivals and awards, and transactional email notifications for you and the buyer.
A note to fellow filmmakers
VIMEO ON DEMAND IS SHUTTING DOWN. WE ARE ALL LOOKING FOR AN ALTERNATIVE.
I couldn’t find anything that worked for me. So I built Ruby Slipper, a TVOD storefront for independent films, with trailers, rentals, purchases, and streaming.
Have your film files, trailers and posters ready. You'll upload everything right here.
A peek inside
HERE'S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
Trailers. Film pages. Rentals. Purchases. Streaming.
What it is and what it is not
It is not yet a marketplace, and it's not a hosting platform. We don't have heavy traffic yet, because we are just getting started. But real search and discovery, so your film actually gets found, is exactly where we're headed.
Why this is different
Made for indie films. Shaped by you.
I built this specifically for what independent filmmakers actually need. This means the filmmakers who join now don’t just use the platform, they help shape it. It's built to be expanded. Tell me your ideas, and we'll try to add them as new features.
The goal is to build Ruby Slipper into the home for your films, where your films will always have a life.
Who I am
Filmmaker first. Problem solver always.

I’m Laurel Chiten, an award-winning independent filmmaker and founder of Blind Dog Films. My films have screened internationally, aired nationally on PBS, and earned numerous honors, including a national Emmy Award nomination.
More recently, I’ve become a tech entrepreneur and founder of The Gift of Yes, a new crowdfunding platform built specifically for creators.
Free to sign up. No monthly fee.
Introductory deal: The first 25 filmmakers to sign up keep 92% of all sales. After those spots fill, the revenue share goes to 90%.
FAQ
Getting started
No. Ruby Slipper is a storefront, not a hosting platform. We stream your films from hosting platforms like Vimeo or Bunny.net.
For now, Ruby Slipper works with Bunny.net. You can upload your films right here, and we'll send them to Bunny for you and get you set up quickly. We prefer Bunny because it protects your films more strongly than Vimeo does, and it's affordable and fast. If you'd like to keep Vimeo as your host, email us at hello@rubyslipper.net.
Yes, much like your Vimeo On Demand page. Add your trailer, poster, press quotes, festivals and awards, and cast and crew, and set your own prices and rental length. Ruby Slipper also lets you add your own buttons, such as “Buy the DVD” or a link to your educational distributor.
No. Your film goes live when you publish it. We may remove any film that breaks our terms of use.
Money
No monthly fee. Ruby Slipper keeps 10% of each sale, or 8% for the first 25 filmmakers. Stripe’s processing fee is separate.
At the moment of sale, into your own Stripe account.
Your films and your audience
Customers in the United States can rent or buy. Renters have 30 days to start watching, then 48 hours or 7 days to finish. You choose.
Only paying customers can play it, and only on Ruby Slipper.
Vimeo On Demand never gave you your buyer list. With Ruby Slipper, every buyer is asked at checkout whether to join your mailing list. Your dashboard lists every sale, with names and emails for those who say yes, and you can download the list any time.
Yes. You can add your whole catalogue, with its own branded Collection page. Email hello@rubyslipper.net and we'll discuss the details with you.
Yes. Ruby Slipper doesn’t ask for exclusivity, and since it’s free to join, it’s an easy way to see where your film sells best.
Your site reaches the fans who already know you. Ruby Slipper puts your film alongside other independent films, where new audiences can find it. It’s free to join, there’s no exclusivity, and you pay nothing unless a film sells, so it’s simply one more place your film can be discovered.
Absolutely. Once you’ve signed up, use Suggest a feature in your dashboard, and we’ll consider building it.
